As the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Marmara University, we visited the Science Festival organized by Kartal Municipality at Makina Hangar.
The visit was attended by faculty members of our department.
Within the scope of the event, which brought together science, technology, engineering, robotics applications, and innovative workshop activities, the activities carried out at Makina Hangar were examined on site. Discussions were also held with the mentors and implementation teams involved in the event. During these meetings, views were exchanged on science- and technology-oriented educational activities, young people’s participation in production processes, interdisciplinary project development opportunities, and potential initiatives that could be evaluated within the scope of university–local government collaboration.
During the visit, particular attention was given to the impact of fields such as artificial intelligence, digital game design, robotics, engineering applications, and maker culture on students and young people. The relationship between applied learning environments and higher education programs was also discussed. In this regard, the event provided an important opportunity for our department to strengthen science–society interaction and to observe and evaluate potential project, workshop, and collaboration processes in which our students may take part in the future.
Our department will continue to closely follow such events that bring science and technology together with society and to support activities aimed at increasing our students’ engagement with applied, interdisciplinary, and innovative learning environments.
